“Loving and Caring for Others”

Come and join us each Wednesday from 9:30am onwards for dance and movement for the 5's and under.

We offer parents and caregivers of preschoolers a chance to come to our church buildings to enjoy music, fun and friends.  We are a group within Long Bay Baptist Church that aims to provide a service to the local community. Mainly Music is part of a programme that is nation wide.

Everybody is welcome to join in with fun or just come to observe us.

Programme of Music and Movement runs for ½ an hour followed by morning tea and playtime. During morning tea you will have time to meet with other parents and caregivers, while the children are in the playground or listening to story time. Cost $3 per family.

For the Health and Safety of every body it is important that you do not bring your child to Mainly Music if they have vomited or had diarrhoea very recently; have experienced a temperature within the last 24 hours, are afflicted with a green runny nose; or any unidentified rash.

As part of our commitment to the community we at Mainly Music sponsor a world vision child named, Rabiou, who lives in Niger.

What to know more, contact the church office or visit the Mainly Music web site for more information about the programme

Alpha Logo What is Alpha...

Alpha Group is for people who are interested in learning more about the Christian faith without tags or pressure.  It’s based on a series of entertaining lectures given by Englishman Nicky Gumbel and provides plenty of opportunity to ask all the questions you ever wanted to know.  Perhaps the best feature is the non-threatening opportunity it provides to meet a bunch of Christians and decide for yourself what makes these people tick.  It provides a natural entry to faith in Christ and the fellowship of Christian people.

It's learning about faith and having fun at the same time. Eating together while providing opportunities to get to know each other and making new friends. Helping one another to explore issues raised during the talks.

Ask anything - Alpha is a place where no question is regarded as too simple or too difficult. The original Alpha started in England and now courses are happening throughout the world.

So What Happens at Alpha

It's a series of talks looking at topics such as...

What relevance does Jesus have for our lives today?
What happens when you die?
How do we deal with sex or drugs?
How can I be sure of my faith?
Who is the holy spirit?
What does the holy spirit do?
Why did Jesus Die?
How can we cope with guilt?
How does God guide us?
Does God heal people today?
What's the point to life?
What about the Church?
Making the most of my life?
What about the occult and resisting evil?

After each video/talk there is time in smaller groups for more individual discussion on issues or questions they might have.

How Long is the Alpha course?

The duration of the course is 11 weeks, once a week on a Tuesday

Is there a cost for the Alpha Course?

There is no charge for the Alpha course, we do however invite koha or a small donation towards the costs.

To find out more about Alpha, contact the church office at Long Bay Baptist Church, Glenvar Rd, Torbay or phone Carole McMinn on 473 3259 for details.

Lydia Logo

Our quarterly meetings give women the opportunity to hear two speakers in one evening. The first speaks or demonstrates on a topic of general interest. The second is usually a very personal story where the speaker tells how God has worked in her life - through good times and difficulties. The testimonies are gripping and emotional, and many women present are moved by them.

Our aim is to give busy women in our community a worthwhile, enjoyable and thought-provoking evening. The meetings are very well attended with more women coming along each time. We would love you to come and join us.

For further information about up coming events please contact the church office on 473 2498 or visit the Lydia web site

Up and Coming Areas

The Nurture Group

Designed to help establish new christians in the faith, or for established Christians helping them to refocus on the essentials. Through this our church has a "clear path way to mature faith".

The first few weeks of a newly-born Christian’s life is all important and we want to make sure the strongest possible foundation is given.  Such things as learning how to pray, both when it is just you and the Lord and when you are with others; how to find your way around this all-important book, the Bible, and how to use it for Spiritual help and how to take a new look at your values in the light of your new relationship with Jesus.   It’s also a chance to freely ask questions.   It will also prepare people for a new life in small groups and give them a chance to understand what things such as worship, giving, serving, are all about.   In other words, Welcome to our Family in Christ.

It is not just for new Christians, but anyone who would like to go over the basics again, get practical help in handling devotional matters and sorting out life issues.

Bibles in Schools

Run by Lorna Jenkins, is proving to be a success. Where local schools permit us to bring christianity to the students. We are getting good responses from the children who seam to look forward to the classes. Lorna is looking for more helpers.
